Week 7: La Jolla Country Day Torreys 54, Maranatha Christian Eagles 20
La Jolla Country Day came into Maranatha Christian and dominated with a final of 54-20 in Maranatha’s first home game in two years.
The first half was the EJ Kreutzman show, as he went 16-for-20 passing for 298 yards and six total touchdowns.
The Torreys of La Jolla Country Day led the Eagles of Maranatha at halftime by a score of 40-7.
To start the second half, Frankie Carney for the Torreys added to the lead with a 5-yard touchdown run to go up 47-7 early in the third quarter.
On the ensuing drive by Maranatha, the ball was picked off by the Torreys’ Daniel Rosenberg to give the ball back to that high-powered offense.
Brett Grainger added more to the onslaught when he ran for a 12-yard touchdown run to put La Jolla Country Day, 54 -7.
To salvage something in their first home game in two years, the Eagles scored two straight touchdowns to end the game.
Ethan Sidley added an 11-yard touchdown run to make the lead 54-14 for the Torreys.
On the last play of the game, Maranatha had the ball and Patrick Collins hit Josh Simpson on a 6-yard touchdown pass with a great catch by Simpson on the sideline.
Kreutzman, the Columbia commit, was the story of the game with six total touchdowns.
The Torreys improve to 5-1 and will host Bishop’s High School to keep the great start going.
Maranatha falls to 1-5 on the season and will host Escondido Charter to get try and get back in the win column.
