Week 7: La Jolla Vikings 15, Mira Mesa Marauders 7
The La Jolla Vikings stole a win from the Mira Mesa Marauders on the Marauders’ Homecoming Night.
The two teams had trouble finding the way to the end zone throughout the course of the game.
In the very last seconds of the second quarter, Grady Mitchell made a huge defensive play at the Marauders’ end zone, preventing Elijah Thomas from scoring their first touchdown.
In the first play of the second half, the Vikings actually scored a safety from Dirk Germon and Jack Wiese, giving them the first 2-0 lead of the game.
Mira Mesa responded with a key defensive play on its end and mirrored the same play the Vikings executed on them.
The Vikings make it all the way to the 1-yard line, however, the Marauders caused a fumble and the Vikings lost 21 yards and missed their field goal attempt.
Come the fourth quarter, both teams started to make their mark on the scoreboard.
The Vikings started it off with a 16-yard touchdown from Jackson Stratton to Makai Smith, putting the Vikings ahead, 9-0, with 8:38 left in the game. Elijah Thomas immediately responded with a 50-yard rushing play, which set him up for a one-yard touchdown, making it 9-7, La Jolla.
In the last seconds of the game, the Vikings sealed the deal and scored once more from the 2-yard line from Stratton extending their lead to 15-7.
The Vikings improved to an overall record of 3-3 and the Marauders take on another loss, bringing them to 1-5. Next week, the Marauders have another home advantage versus Christian High at 7 p.m. The Vikings will be at home, as well, as they take on the Tigers from Morse (4-2).
