Week 7 North County Game of the Week: San Marcos Knights 12, La Costa Canyon Mavericks 8

The North County Game of the Week was just exactly what you would expect from an Avocado League game. A punishing physical affair that saw San Marcos (5-1, 2-1) pick up a 12-6 win over La Costa Canyon (5-1, 2-1).

It came down to defense when Knights DB Jailen Bainer picked a pass in the third quarter that led to an Aaron Norita score.  After that, it may have been the best defensive effort the Knights had played in the Jason Texler era.

Next week La Costa Canyon will host a non-league game against Valley Center, while San Marcos will try and improve their Avocado League standing as they travel to El Camino.

Preview

The PPR North County Game of the Week takes us to San Marcos, as the Knights (4-1, 1-1) host #1 La Costa Canyon (5-0, 2-0) in an Avocado League match-up.

The Mavericks have done it with their defense, which is lead by junior LB Ozzie Nicholas, and senior DE Sam Hussin. While their offense features several “Home Run Threats”. Highlighting the offense is sophomore RB Aiden Lippert who averages 18.4 yards per carry. And they are almost an even pass and run on offense 45% percent of the time throwing the ball, and 55% running the ball.

San Marcos will be without senior QB Miles Hastings, but they still have plenty of firepower on offense. Running backs Aaron Norita and Zach Frost provide a 1-2 punch carrying the ball. And even without Hastings they still put up 56 points last wee in a win over Mt. Carmel.

Highlights of this game and 31 more will be on Friday night’s Prep Pigskin Report on KUSI-TV. Kick-off time set for 11:00 PM. You can also follow me on Twitter @Rickwillis99 for up to the minute scoring updates of the North County Game of the Week.
