Week 7: Scripps Ranch Falcons 34, Kearny Komets 13

The Scripps Ranch Falcons handled their business on the road, defeating the Kearny Komets, 34-13.

Kearny got things started early, scoring on a Nico Estrada 10-yard touchdown run to lead by seven.

Scripps Ranch answered right back as quarterback Luke Durkin found receiver Ethan Nicholas for the 16-yard touchdown hookup to tie the score at 7-all.

The Falcons seemed to find a groove in the second quarter.

Again Durkin found a teammate named Nicholas but this time it was Nicholas Gardinera. The two connected on a 27-yard pass putting Scripps Ranch up, 14-7.

The Komets weren’t done yet.

Quarterback Mario Alves found Cruz Estrada streaking down the left sideline for a 99-yard catch-and-run to the house. After a missed field goal Kearny trailed 14-13.

But the second quarter continued strong for the Falcons.

Durkin once again found Gardinera, this time for a 34-yard touchdown putting Scripps Ranch up, 21-13.

A field goal late in the second quarter put the Falcons up, 24-13, going into the half.

Not needing to do much in the second half, Gardinera found pay dirt once more early in the third quarter. He punched it in from 5 yards out to put Scripps Ranch up, 31-13.

Next week Kearny will travel to Patrick Henry while Scripps Ranch plays host to Crawford.
