Week 8: San Marcos Knights 13, El Camino Wildcats 12

Friday’s matchup between the San Marcos Knights and El Camino Wildcats was a game of turnovers, marking seven fumbles and two interceptions between both teams. Despite a rough four quarters, the Knights won the turnover battle, squeaking by with a 13-12 victory.

San Marcos’ offense didn’t come alive until the second quarter when Emmett Brown connected with Jalen Bainer on a 47-yard pass. Brown connected with JT Dozier on the following play for a 23-yard touchdown. San Marcos couldn’t capitalize on the extra point, taking a 6-0 lead over the Wildcats.

El Camino tried to get its offense going on the following drive but came to halt when San Marcos’ Jake Bolin picked off Joey Armentrout on the Wildcats’ 29-yard line, setting up another scoring drive for the Knights.

Emmett Brown connected with Jalen Bainer down the field for 28 yards but was short of the goal line by a yard. Brown ran it in the following play for a one-yard touchdown, extending the Knights’ lead 13-0.

El Camino’s Timothy Ochoa set the tone the second half, finding a gap in San Marcos’ defense and taking the pigskin 44 yards to the house to cut the Knights lead to 13-6.

With a minute to play, San Marcos fumbled the ball at midfield and El Camino’s Omar Hernandez recovered it on the 50-yard line. On the following play, Joey Armentrout connected with Elijah Valles who took it 47 yards to the end zone to cut San Marcos’ lead to one.

The Wildcats missed the extra point, securing a 13-12 victory for the Knights.

San Marcos (3-4, 1-3 Avocado) will host Torrey Pines (3-4, 0-3 Avocado) next Friday for Week 9 of the Prep Pigskin Report, who are searching for their first Avocado League win of the season. El Camino (3-4, 1-2 Avocado) will head to Carlsbad (6-1, 4-0 Avocado) for another conference game. The Lancers currently hold the No. 1 spot in the Avocado League with four wins.
