Week 8: Francis Parker Lancers 22, Army-Navy Warriors 0

Senior night for six Francis Parker Lancers as they said their many thanks to the coaches they have had for the past four years and continuing their undefeated season (7-0) beating Army-Navy (2-5), 22-0.

Francis Parker looked to be starting the game off strong as it charged down the field getting to the 11-yard line. So close to scoring on the first drive, yet so far away as Army-Navy recovered a fumble by Ryan Sanborn, just the first of many turnovers in the game for the night.

Could it be, the Warriors getting on the board before the Lancers? Nope, the second turnover of the night was intercepted by Jonathon Gordon, his third interception of the season.

The Lancers were trying to redeem themselves, going for it on the fourth down where superman Sanborn kept the ball and flipped his body over the Warriors’ defensive line to get the first down.

Momentum was building as it looked like we would see a scoring drive coming from the Lancers. A fumble by Trevor Browkowski was recovered by Warrior Gilbert Oaks as the first quarter came to an end.

A series of penalties called against the Warriors consisting of two false starts and a delay of game put the Warriors back to 2nd-and-25. There was almost another fumble recovery by the quarterback Caleb Clark only to have another flag thrown for unsportsmanlike like conduct against the Warriors.

The Lancers get the ball back on the Warriors 47 yard line where Sanborn found Jonathon Gordon with a 47 yard touchdown pass to get the Lancers on the board. A fake field goal kick turned 2-point conversion is good as the Lancer took an 8-0 lead.

Just when it looked like Army-Navy would get some momentum after a pass was intercepted by Warrior Paul Ferraro and ran back 45 yards before he was taken down by Sanborn. On 4th-and-10 Clark gots the first down, just yards away from the end zone, as the next play is turned over due to a fumble when the ball slipped out of the hands of the quarterback and recovered by Francis Parker as they entered halftime 8-0 Lancers.

After the half, Sanborn finds Camden McCormick with a 36-yard pass to get the Lancers in the red zone where Brokowski got the 5-yard touchdown run, bringing the Lancers to 15-0.

A few more turnovers made it nine total for the game, three fumbles and an interception for Army-Navy, three interceptions and two fumbles for Francis Parker.

One more final touchdown as Sanborn hit an 11-yard touchdown pass to Sam Carrillo as the Lancers defeated the Warriors, 22-0.

This is the Lancers third shutout of the season as they head to Vista next week for another conference game against Tri-City Christian (6-1). Army-Navy will host Escondido Charter (1-7) as they look for their first league win.

It’s Week 8 of the Prep Pigskin Report and we will see the Francis Parker Lancers (6-0) defend their undefeated record as they host the Warriors from Army-Navy (2-4).

The Army-Navy Warriors are coming off a close loss to Maranatha, 13-10, as they enter their second league game of the season.

The Warriors have been on a losing streak as they faced difficult teams but have always managed to get a score up on the board.

Leading the Warriors down the field is junior quarterback Caleb Clark with 600 passing yards, which 193 of those yards have been caught by senior wide receiver Hadi Assi.

Hadi is also the leading rusher for the Warriors with 853 yards and 7 touchdowns scored this year.

This team is also strong on defense, with almost 300 tackles and 11 sacks. A great asset for playing a team with such a strong offense.

The first league game for the Lancers and they are coming off a big win against San Ysidro, shutting them down, 42-7.

This season, the Lancers have only given up 29 points in six games played.
