Week 8 Game of the Week: St. Augustine Saints 48, Lincoln Hornets 31

It was a game that featured a lot of talent on the field between St. Augustine and Lincoln. However, the Saints took advantage of early mistakes by the Hornets then held on for a 48-31 victory.

The game was scoreless at the end of the first quarter and Lincoln already had two interceptions but was unable to take advantage of either of them.

Midway through the second quarter, St. Augustine running back Byron Cardwell broke loose for a 73-yard touchdown run and a 7-0 lead. He added another rushing touchdown with under a minute left in the half to make it 21-0 and then capped off the first-half scoring when he intercepted a Tyler Jensen pass and returned it for a 75-yard pick-six and a commanding 28-0 Saints lead.

The Saints would stretch the lead to 41-7 by the end of the third quarter before the Hornets offense started clicking and scored 27 points in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a pair of touchdown grabs by Benjo O’Brien. It ended up being too little too late.

Cardwell led the Saints with 15 carries for 95 yards, two receptions for 100 yards, and three touchdowns including the pick-six. O’Brien finished the night with nine catches for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
