Week 8: Helix Highlanders 49, Valhalla Norsemen 2
In a game where Helix was missing star running back and Silver Pigskin watchlist leader Elelyon “Fatto” Noa, sophomore running back Christian Washington picked up the heavy lifting, going for over 100 yards and scoring three touchdowns en route to a 49-2 defeat of Valhalla.
In a game mostly dominated by the Highlanders, Joshua Meredith was a bright spot, showing off his hands and athleticism with a clean 21-yard catch featured in the PPR highlights on a pass from Luke Pillsbury. Kegan Baker did not play, as no reason was specified.
Jaiden Brown was a defensive light in the game for the Highlanders with an early 76-yard interception return pick-six to make the Highlanders lead 14-0, expanding on the 7-0 lead that was the result of a breakaway Delshawn Traylor-run on the Highlanders’ second play from scrimmage.
Kamryn Brown continued to exhibit excellent quarterback play, finding Keionte Scott in the back of the end zone to make the score 21-0 in the first quarter.
The Highlanders moved to 6-1, 2-0 in league play and will face the rival Grossmont Foothillers next week in a game with huge Grossmont Hills League implications.
The Norsemen fall to 3-4, 0-2 in league and will travel to Steele Canyon to face a red-hot Cougar team and attempt to slow them down.
