The La Costa Canyon Mavericks took care of the Valley Center Jaguars on Red Ribbon Week by a final of 28-7.
To start the scoring for the Mavericks, Aiden Lippert started with the first contribution courtesy of a 64-yard touchdown run with eight minutes to go in the first quarter.
Lippert blew by the defenders and found his reservations for six.
That put the Mavericks up, 7-0.
A tough injury for Valley Center came later in the first quarter for quarterback Frank Stehly, who did not return to the game.
That injury changed the way the Jaguars approached the game on offense.
La Costa Canyon added to its lead when Marshall Eucker hit Trevor Gonzales on a ‘go’ route for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 21 seconds left before halftime.
The Mavericks went into halftime with a 14-0 lead.
With halftime over and a couple of stalled drives, La Costa Canyon made the deficit even larger when Syrus Chalox zoomed past Jaguar defenders for a 20-yard touchdown run.
That put the Mavericks up 21-0 midway through the third quarter.
Valley Center finally got on the board when quarterback John Amago connected with Raymond Stelley for a 9-yard touchdown hookup.
That made the score 21-7 late in the third quarter.
However, the Mavericks closed this red ribbon game out with a 3-yard touchdown run by Syrus Chaloux for his second rushing touchdown of the night to go up, 28-7.
The win for the Mavericks puts their record at 4-3 and will host Mission Hills to try and continue their winning streak.
For Valley Center, the loss drops the Jaguars to 4-3 and they will travel to San Pasqual to look to get back on track.
