Week 8: Poway Titans 21, Mt. Carmel Sundevils 7
A close defensive battle for the Kiwanis Cup finished with Poway coming out on top 21-7 over Mount Carmel.
Poway started the scoring early in the 1st quarter when Andrew Wiesley connected with DJ Owens in the end zone from 30-yards out giving Poway the 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter Mount Carmel pinned Poway back to their own 12. But, 12 plays later Josh Butler was running the ball in from 8-yards to extend Poway’s first half lead to 14-0.
In the first drive of the 2nd half Poway was intercepted by Mount Carmel, and the Sundevils were able to return the pick to Poway’s 27. A few plays later Carson Taumoepeau found Jayden Virgin in the end zone for the 8-yard score, cutting Poway’s lead down to 14-7.
In the beginning of the 4th quarter Mount Carmel was attempting a 27-yard field goal to cut the lead down to 4. But, Colby Kopacz had other plans and made an incredible diving block to keep the score where it stood.
Poway received the ball back with just over 8 minutes left in the game. They were able to drive from their own 38-yard line to punch the ball in once more by Josh Butler, extending their lead to 21-7 and running off the majority of the clock.
On their senior night, Poway came away with a 21-7 victory and held onto the Kiwanis Cup.
