Week 8 Pigskin Idol Game: Castle Park Trojans 26, El Cajon Valley Braves 19
Our Week 8 Pigskin Idol Game of the Week was quite the showdown between the El Cajon Valley Braves and the Castle Park Trojans. The difference? A game-winning touchdown with about minute left to go is what finalized Castle Park’s 26-19 win.
In the first quarter, El Cajon Valley’s Joe Malone found Clarence Johnson for a 21-yard touchdown pass, putting the Braves on the board first, 6-0.
In the first again, Castle Park’s Erik Hernandez responded with an impressive 47-yard touchdown run. After racing down the field, Hernandez ties the game up at 6-all.
In the second quarter, Castle Park’s Hernandez made a big play again, but this time it was on the defensive side of the ball. He came up with the interception in the end zone, stopping a potential El Cajon Valley touchdown. The game was still tied at 6-all.
With a minute left in the first half, Castle Park’s Demarkus Lewis connected with Jose Castro with a 29-yard touchdown pass, as Castle Park (7-0) took the lead, 13-6.
In the third quarter, Castle Park’s Hernandez made yet another appearance with a 20-yard touchdown run, upping the Trojans lead to 19-6.
In the fourth quarter, El Cajon Valley’s Malone found Damarius Hyde with a 6-yard touchdown pass, tightening the score to 19-13.
With 4:50 left in the game, El Cajon Valley’s Johnson speeds down 25 yards for the touchdown, tying the game at 19-all. Castle Park then went on to block the PAT. The game was tied at 19-all.
Then with a little over a minute left in the game, Castle Park’s Ramon Cabal with the game-winning touchdown. Cabal took it in six yards and capped the night off at 26-19.
Both teams put up a good fight, and this matchup will go down in the books as one to remember.
