Week 9: Morse Tigers 58, Christian Patriots 22
On a night where Christian Salacup was named King of Christian High, he began his duties as his holiness by taking the opening kickoff back 73 yards for the game’s opening touchdown, putting Christian up 7-0. That lead would not last.
Morse went on to score 48 points unanswered before Christian finally put another six on the board, but it was far, far too late.
Led by Micheal Cunningham and Jaycob Hicks, Tracy McNair’s Division II seventh-ranked Tigers cruised to an easy 58-22 victory, upsetting the second-ranked Patriots and making a case for the top-seed in the division. Certainly a good tuneup game before entering the most meaningful stretch of the season.
In the second half, Christian’s Gabriel Krug saved some pride for the Patriots, rushing for two touchdowns, but it was simply not enough as Morse’s high-powered offense was too hot to handle.
Morse advances to 5-3 on the season and will face off against conference opponent Mira Mesa, looking to capitalize on this stretch of momentum.
Christian will have a break from league play, facing Nevada’s Fernley, in Nevada, before returning to San Diego and finishing its league schedule against the Vikings of La Jolla.
