Week 9 North County Game of the Week: Mission Hills Grizzlies 14, La Costa Canyon Mavericks 10
The North County Game of the Week in Week 9 of the Prep Pigskin Report takes us out to La Costa Canyon where the Mavericks host the Mission Hills Grizzlies in an Avocado League matchup. This one came down to the last couple seconds of the game but in the end, the Grizzlies fought their way and won this one, 14-10.
A slow start in the first half, as the Mavericks were the first to light up the scoreboard with a 41-yard field goal by Joe Bowman and La Costa Canyon led, 3-0. This would be the only score in the first half.
Both teams came out in the second half almost looking like two completely different teams.
Mission Hills was the first to find the end zone, as Cameron Woolsey snuck one in from 9 yards out and the Grizzlies took the lead.
Later in the fourth quarter, Maverick Brendan Quinn came up out of nowhere and blocked the punt to set La Costa Canyon up for their time to shine in the end zone.
Week 9 Big Pig on Campus nominee Aiden Lippert went 42 yards for the score and the Mavericks took back the lead, 10-7.
That lead didn’t last long for La Costa Canyon, as the Grizzlies Jason Boyle found the end zone from 19 yards out to put Mission Hills back on top and the Grizzlies stayed on top for the rest of the game.
Mission Hills improved to 6-2 while La Costa Canyon changed to 4-4.
Mission Hills will travel to Torrey Pines to take on the Falcons next Friday, while La Costa Canyon will have another shot at a home win, this time against Carlsbad.
