Week 9 North County Game of the Week: Valley Center Jaguars 28, San Pasqual Golden Eagles 7

With a thunder and lightning storm surrounding the stadium at Valley Center High School, the Jaguars (5-3, 3-0) took a major step in securing the Valley League title with a 28-7 win over San Pasqual (4-4. 1-2).

Senior running back Mateo Sinohui ran for all four touchdowns, he also carried the offense rushing 35 times for 162 yards.  A muffed fake punt by San Pasqual, as well as a muffed punt return late, did the Fighting Eagles in on Friday night.

Valley center will travel down the hill next Friday to face Escondido, while San Pasqual will travel up to Fallbrook next Friday.

PREVIEW

The Prep Pigskin Report North County Game of the week takes us to Valley Center, as the Jaguars (4-3, 2-0) host Valley League rival San Pasqual Fighting Eagles (4-3, 1-1). This has a huge impact in who will win the Valley League title.

Valley Center is lead by senior running back Mateo Sinohui who has already cracked the 1,000 yard mark rushing along with 15 rushing TD’s plus a kick-off return for a score. And their defense comes to play every week, giving up just one touchdown in their two league games this season. Add in the fact that teams have to make one of the longer trips going up the hill to Valley Center and that gives an extra home field advantage.

San Pasqual brings what you expect…a tough group of guys that come to play every week. They are one of the few schools in the county that has not deviated from their tradition running the “Wing-T” offense, highlighting an athletic offensive line lead by Senior Rudy Archuleta. And this year they have opened the playbook a little bit, because of sophomore receiver DJ McNeal who has hands reminiscent of “Silver Pigskin Finalist” Jujuan Thompson.

Highlights from this game and 36 more will be on Friday night’s Prep Pigskin Report. Kick-Off time for the show 11:00 PM. You can also follow me on Twitter @Rickwillis99 for live scoring updates of the game.
