Week Four Hog Blog: The 2017 Silver Pigskin Watch List

Dear PPR Viewers:

The goal of every San Diego high school football player is to finish his season inside the hanger bay of the Midway Museum, seated on the podium at the Silver Pigskin Gala. It’s not easy to get there. Consider the odds – the county features dozens upon dozens of deserving candidates and at most, there are only 7 available slots; mostly likely 6 and maybe as few 5.

Our search starts during the off season. The PPR Player of the Year Committee meets regularly to review any and all names we want on the 1st Silver Pigskin Watch List. Today we make that list public with a couple of caveats.

This is a fluid document. As the season progresses, names will appear and disappear. Those changes not only reflect the performance of the candidates, but also the results of our weekly internal polling of the PPR staff.

Second, if there is a name that isn’t on this list but you feel should be, make your case. Drop us a text, tweet, email or post and detail why we should consider your athlete of choice. Many an athlete has gotten on the Watch List solely on the strength of viewer feedback.

Next week we’ll unveil the 2017 Iron Hog Watch List. San Diego’s top interior lineman have their own trophy to chase; consequently, they have their own Watch List. Trust me – compiling that list is as difficult as this one.

So take a moment and read through our current candidates. Remember, your feedback is both welcome and encouraged. And don’t forget to be in front of the television, computer screen, tablet or cell phone in time for the week -4- edition of the Prep Pigskin Report.

See you then,

Paul W. Rudy/PPR
