Weekend rail service between Oceanside and San Diego interrupted for construction
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Rail Service between Oceanside and San Diego will be unavailable this weekend due to construction, according to the North County Transit District. The NCTD Coaster and Amtrak trains south of Oceanside will be unavailable Saturday and Sunday, though service is expected to be fully restored for commuting Monday morning.
Aging wooden trestle railway bridges at the Los Penasquitos Lagoon are being replaced, and a crossover that is part of a project to add a second track in Rose Canyon is also being worked on. The renovations are being organized by the San Diego Association of Governments.
Three daily train runs are being canceled due to the construction, according to Amtrak officials. Passengers on other Amtrak trains will be shuttled via bus between Oceanside and Solana Beach, and Old Town and downtown San Diego.
There will be no additional services made available to replace the Coaster train, but the 101 bus route and Metropolitan Transit System buses are alternatives.
