Woman accused of stabbing boyfriend’s pregnant ex-girlfriend to stand trial
EL CAJON (KUSI) — A woman who allegedly broke into the home of her boyfriend’s pregnant ex-girlfriend and stabbed her several times must stand trial on charges of premeditated attempted murder and burglary, a judge ruled Tuesday.
Shagirah Akila Joyce, 28, allegedly forced her way into the victim’s home on Petree Street near El Monte Road around 11:30 p.m. on May 16, attacked her and fled, according to El Cajon police Lt. Jason Taub. The victim’s two daughters were home at the time, but neither was injured.

The victim, identified as Mashala Smith, called for help shortly afterward and alleged she was attacked by her ex-boyfriend’s current girlfriend, Taub said.
Smith was taken to a hospital to be treated for multiple stab wounds. Taub said the injuries were not considered life-threatening to either the victim or her unborn child.
Joyce was arrested during a vehicle stop near her home on West Park Avenue, Taub said.
After a preliminary hearing today, Judge Lantz Lewis ruled that enough evidence was presented for Joyce to stand trial Sept. 13.
A readiness conference was set for July 18.
Joyce faces life in prison if convicted.
