Woman detained in connection with City Heights apartment Fire

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A suspicious fire damaged an apartment building in City Heights early Tuesday, leaving the residents of two units displaced.

The apartment building on Van Dyke Avenue near Wightman Street were evacuated after the fire broke out for unknown reasons in a second story unit shortly before 3:30 a.m., according to San Diego police and fire officials. Four people were evaluated for possible smoke inhalation.

A woman was detained in connection with the fire, but it was not immediately clear if she would be placed under arrest, San Diego police Officer Travis Easter said.

The fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The American Red Cross was summoned to assist the residents who were displaced by the fire, fire officials said.
