Woman falls 80-feet off cliff above Black’s Beach
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A woman was hospitalized after falling 80-feet down a cliff near the Torrey Pines Glider Port early Monday.
A group of people appeared to be exploring the cliffs above Black’s Beach when a 21-year-old woman slipped and fell about 80-feet down the bluffs just before 4 a.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue Batt. Chief Dan Froelich said.
“These cliffs are dangerous, unstable,” Froelich said. “Although it looks to be trails out there, those trails are unsafe.”
Firefighters arrived to near darkness and had difficulties spotting the woman and two other people who had climbed down to try to help her. San Diego police and San Diego Fire-Rescue lifeguards were also called to assist.
After she was located, rescue crews, with the aid of a helicopter, pulled her off the cliff.
Froelich warned people exploring the area to stay away from unmarked pathways, especially at night.
“This is what happens when people ignore those signs and go exploring that area.”
The unidentified woman complained of pain from the fall and she was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with minor injuries, Froelich said. She is expected to be okay.
