Woman fatally struck by vehicle in El Cajon

EL CAJON (KUSI) — A woman was fatally injured Tuesday after she was struck by a vehicle while walking in El Cajon.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., El Cajon Police Officers and paramedics responded to the 600 block of Greenfield Drive on a call of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle.

After the initial response, paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The name of the individual, an adult female approximately 40 years of age, is being withheld pending notification of the family.

After a preliminary investigation of the scene and the taking of witness statements, it appears the woman was walking westbound on the south sidewalk of Greenfield Drive when a blue 2004 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling westbound on Greenfield Drive and veered across the eastbound lanes and left the roadway, striking her as she was walking.

The driver of the Suburban, a 49-year-old male resident of El Cajon, remained on scene and was fully cooperative with the investigation.

It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision.
