Woman hit and killed in front of Convention Center

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A woman reportedly in town to attend Comic-Con
International 2012 was struck and killed by a car Tuesday in front of the San
Diego Convention Center, where the highly popular annual event takes place,
authorities reported.

The motorist had a green light when his westbound vehicle hit the 53-
year-old pedestrian on Harbor Drive at Fifth Avenue shortly before 9:30 a.m.,
according to San Diego police.

“Apparently the pedestrian, as she went (along) the crosswalk, stumbled
and fell and struck the vehicle as it passed by her,” SDPD Sgt. Ron Glass
said.

Medics took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The woman was visiting the city for this year's Comic-Con convention,
which begins Wednesday evening, it was reported. Her name was
withheld pending family notification.

A stretch of Harbor Drive was closed to allow traffic officers to
investigate.
