Woman steps out of car, fatally hit in Mission Bay

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A 32-year-old woman was struck by a car in Mission Bay after getting out of her car in the dark, authorities said.

The crash happened in the 4300 block of Mission Bay Drive at 9:14 p.m. Sunday, Officer Ben Newton of the San Diego Police Department said.

A 67-year-old man was driving a Kia Optima southbound near the area and the 32-year-old female was also on the southbound side. “For an unknown reason it looks like she stopped her car and got out of it and was struck by the Kia,” Newton said.

The Kia driver stopped at the scene after the crash, Newton said.
