Woman struck and killed by vehicle in La Jolla shopping center identified

LA JOLLA (KUSI) — 4/18/2018 — The 22-year-old woman who was struck and killed by an armored truck Tuesday in the parking lot of a La Jolla shopping center has been identified.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Mikaela Jones of San Diego.

Jones was in the parking lot at La Jolla Village Square when a large armored truck struck the decedent as she was crossing the roadway.

Witnesses placed a 9-1-1 call and upon arrival of paramedics, she was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla Emergency Department. Despite lifesaving efforts, she could not be resuscitated and her death was pronounced.

4/17/2018 — A 22-year-old woman was struck by an armored truck and killed Tuesday in the parking lot of a La Jolla shopping center.

The collision was reported just after 5 p.m. at the La Jolla Village Square in the 8600 block of Villa La Jolla, according to San Diego police Officer John Buttle.

According to witnesses on scene, the woman was crossing the parking lot with her dog when the armored vehicle came around a corner.

The woman, who was dragged by the Garda armored truck, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, Buttle said.

The vehicle’s driver stopped and was cooperating in the investigation into what led to the fatal collision, Buttle said.

According to San Diego police Officer Andrea Brown, Tuesday was the woman’s 22nd birthday.
