Woman suspected of DUI and causing head-on collision will face criminal charges
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – An Oceanside woman suspected of causing a head-on collision in the Pala area while driving drunk, killing a passenger in her car and seriously injuring two other people, was recovering in a hospital Monday and expected to face criminal charges upon her release.
Mirella Trevino, 41, was eastbound on State Route 76 when her 2005 Chrysler Sebring veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with an oncoming 2001 Mazda Protege near Bodie Boulevard shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A backseat passenger in Trevino’s vehicle, 50-year-old Margarita Rodriguez of Vista, died at the scene of the accident.
A 35-year-old Vista man riding in the front passenger seat of the Sebring suffered severe injuries, as did the 21-year-old Valley Center woman driving the Protege, the CHP reported.
Medics took them to a hospital along with Trevino, who was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and other charges.
