Woman threatening to jump saved by Sheriff’s Deputies

ALPINE (CNS) – A distraught woman threatened to jump off an overpass onto Interstate 8 and tied up traffic for six hours, but was rescued by sheriff's deputies.

The incident started at 6:08 p.m. on the westbound Interstate 8 bridge overcrossing at Flinn Springs Road, San Diego sheriff's Sgt. Russ Shimmin said.

“Sheriff's deputies and crisis negotiators talked to the woman for several hours, ultimately convincing her to come off the ledge,” Shimmin said.

After surrendering to sheriffs, the woman, 43, was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, Shimmin said.

The woman was not publicly identified.

One lane of westbound Interstate 8 was closed for about six hours, Shimmin said.
