Worker killed in Stone Brewery forklift accident identified

ESCONDIDO (CNS) – Authorities Monday identified a 27-year-old Escondido
brewery employee who was fatally injured when a forklift tipped over and landed
on top of him while he was on the job.

Matthew Courtright, an employee at Stone Brewing Co. at 1999 Citracado
Parkway, died at Palomar Medical Center a short time after arrival on Saturday,
according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The co-founders of Stone Brewing Co., CEO Greg Koch and President Steve
Wagner, said in a company statement disseminated via Facebook and Twitter that
an investigation into the cause of the fatal accident had been launched, and
additional details on the incident would not be made public until it was
complete.

“It is with a very heavy heart that we communicate a tragedy involving
one of our valued friends and Team Stone colleagues. We are deeply saddened
that one of our own passed away from complications resulting from a forklift
accident at our Escondido brewery on Saturday, Aug. 24,” Koch and Wagner said
in the joint statement. “Our deepest condolences go out to the team member's
family.”
