World of Wonder: The Dennis Conner Museum
If you or someone you know loves yachting and your looking for a gift, there’s a unique museum in San Diego where you can see, learn and even take home a piece of yacht racing history.
KUSI’s Dave Scott introduces us to Shelter Island’s newest “World of Wonder.”
The sign points the way to Christmas trees, but the newest “World of Wonder” is really taking root along Shelter Island Drive, it’s what’s next to the tree lot.
Welcome to the Dennis Conner Museum, a place to see, learn and even take home a piece of Yacht Racing history.
What Dennis Conner is sharing is a look into his world, the world of the most celebrated yachtsman of all time.
There are cups dating back to 1955 when Dennis began to race as a boy and models of the boats that brought him four victories in America’s Cup.
His wins brought him the cover of Time and Sports Illustrated along with Ronald Reagan the first President ever to grace its cover.
The mural and the trees here stand tall, but it’s the man himself, his legacy and now his museum that will always be something to look up to.
