Would-be robber hits man with sledge hammer
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Two men sitting in a parked car in North Park early
Monday were confronted by a would-be robber who struck one of the victims in the
head with a sledge hammer, police said.
The assault in the 3900 block of Alabama Street was reported at 1:05
a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.
The would-be robber used the sledge hammer to break a window on the car,
then demanded cash from the men inside before striking one of the victims in
the head with the hammer, Delimitros said in a statement.
The victim who was struck was expected to be OK, Delimitros said.
The would-be robber then ran off empty-handed in an eastbound direction,
according to authorities. Police described him as a Hispanic man in his 30s,
wearing baggy shorts and white socks pulled up high on his calf.
