Wrong-way motorist leaves 2 dead in 12-car collision in Chula Vista
CHULA VISTA (KUSI) – California Highway Patrol received reports of a wrong-way driver speeding northbound in the southbound lanes near the I-905 early this morning at around 5 a.m.
A collision happened with a preliminary report of 12 vehicles involved. 7 vehicles were hit directly and 5 others were struck by debris.
Two people died at the scene of the crash and two others had to be extricated by firefighters and transported to UCSD for their injuries.
The wreckage was so vast the southbound I-5 had to be completely shut down.
It’s not yet known if the wrong-way driver was at the scene or fled.
CHP is currently investigating the scene and those involved.
