Young woman dies after five-story fall from roof near SDSU
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A San Diego State University student fell to her death early Friday from the roof of a five-story apartment building near the campus.
Melissa Kennon, 19, was with a friend when she plunged off the structure in the 5000 block of Lindo Paseo shortly before 4 a.m., said San Diego police and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Medics took Kennon, a sophomore who had been studying psychology, to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about six hours later.
The fall was believed to have been an accident, SDPD Officer Frank Cali said.
Eric Rivera, SDSU vice president of student affairs, said the university staff was “deeply saddened” by Kennon’s death.
“It is heartbreaking when a young life is lost,” he said. “We will honor Melissa by sharing strength and support with one another as we process through this difficult time.”
